Brecon Cathedral Crucifix
Anthony Bunker's Crucifix installed in Brecon Cathedral for Easter 2012
The Crucifix was commissioned by a private client, Anthony Bunker, to celebrate his wife’s ordination. A keen patron of the arts in Wales, Anthony wanted a bronze crucifix between four and six foot tall, cast from an original made in wood gathered from the welsh coast. The first piece of wood I found was one that was so perfect for the head that I couldn’t not use it - but the head of course dictates how big everything else is and the finished piece ended up being over six foot. I didn’t want him not to have a choice, so I made another crucifix, just over five foot tall.
His choice was to have both! The smaller one became a gift for his wife, now a priest in the St Albans diocese.
The large crucifix (approx. 2m tall) was installed in Brecon Cathedral on April 2nd 2012, on loan, and was reinstalled on a permanent basis in December 2012.
